Case Study - The Robots of death sofa
We pride ourselves on providing high quality props and collectables from the movie and TV industry, and take a great deal of care checking and confirming the provenance of items prior to sale.
Some of our displays are created using pieces of props which have become unretainable during the restoration process. An example of our process can be seen with our Doctor Who Sofa display from The Robots of Death.
The sofa set had been recreated recently using various sections of the original screen-used sofa (it was multi pieced) and a large percentage of the original sofa couldn’t be utilised as it was too fragile and damaged. We obtained what was left including off-cuts of the sofa that were about to be skipped, and we used the off-cuts of these small sections in our displays, so no prop was harmed in the creation of our displays.
You can see in the first picture Reliquary owner and Doctor Who prop specialist Matthew Doe and Craig Hughes the upholsterer who did the work on the sofas for a recent Television program, with a photo of what is left of the other sofa. The sections of sofa come from the other sofa that got skipped, not the sofa shown, we have included the photo for reference.
